Our Team

Principal/Owner

I thrive on the challenge of running my own business!

On a typical day I'm up early, hit the ground running, and before you know it, it's time to head home for a different type of work!  Andy and I enjoy our home hear Half Moon Bay with our wonderful family.  We live on a working ranch with lots of projects and animals to care for; animals that include horses, dogs, cats. I'm a self starter in everything I do, so projects keep me busy!

I'm also a problem solver. Our client projects are large and often multi-faceted. I am happy when General Contractors come to us with special requests, that can feel out of the norm. If it can be done, we will find a way to make it happen!  I enjoy taking a project and seeing it through from beginning to end.  As a team we always make certain we have done the best we can do for each client.

I'd like our General Contractors and customers to know we care about what we do and the quality of our work.  We are experts in the product, delivery, and production needs of the projects we take on. We will complete it with excellence no matter what; they can count on us to do it right.

Our team has been together for years. We know each other's strengths and put that to good use with the types of jobs we work on together.  We each bring our individual strengths to the table, and come up with solutions together on how to complete a project thoroughly.

We appreciate our contractors and customers and thank them for their business.

Finance Manager

When the owners of Modern Drapery Inc. (one of which was my husband Bob) decided to go their separate ways, Bob and I chose to carry on the work Bob has been doing for 25 years. A new and updated version of the business was created. Modern Pacific was born Jan 1, 2005.

I enjoy multiple responsibilities but mostly I enjoy the helpful nature of our company and how everyone works so well together toward our common goals. It is truly a family in the office as well as in the field. Everyone is willing to do what it takes to complete the job and ultimately to have a happy client! I am so grateful for having the right people and opportunities to help others benefit from what we have to offer at Modern Pacific.

Probably the most interesting part of my job is the variety of work and the abundance of professions I get to interact with.

I love to travel and read - most enjoyably on a beach in Central America! I enjoy live music and spending time with family and friends, and I love, love animals and do what I can to help animals in need.

Sales Manager/ Estimator

I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life. After 10 years in the non-profit industry, Bob and Andy Lyshorn asked if I would like to become an estimator for Modern Pacific.  With a recently completed MBA, I was up for the challenge and a new career in the window covering industry.

We have a wonderful team at Modern Pacific! I’m lucky to have such a great group of people to work together with each day.

I love technology and have always been a gadget guy.  I enjoy learning new skills and concepts that I can share with our team. I believe it is important to stay up to date with the latest technology to stay ahead of the game in our industry. I have extensive training in programming motorized shades and how to integrate them with third-party controllers. I am very confident that I can give our clients the best automation options for their projects.

For most of my life I have been around a team environment.  I grew up playing team sports, starting with Little League and continued team sports into my college years. Most recently, for the past seven years, I have been a coach for a traveling youth baseball team. I know what teamwork looks like, and I apply it to my life and work at Modern Pacific daily.

I want our clients to have complete confidence that we will work together to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

When I am not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Nicole and our dog. We love spending time with family and friends, traveling, listening to live music, and spending time outdoors. I’m an avid Bay Area sports fan and like to hit up the golf links whenever possible.

Senior Estimator

I moved to the Bay Area from Southern California in '96 after spending 14 years in the hospitality industry. A friend referred me to Moderne Drapery where Bob was at the time. I loved the job right away despite it not being my area of expertise. It was a great fit with my background.

My typical day is non- stop, interesting!  Multitasking, emails, phone communications throughout the day, takeoffs from plans, assembling proposals, shop drawings for submittals, ordering product, requesting quotes from manufacturers, creating change orders, writing up installation instructions. I often spend time on revision of proposals. We always want it right for our clients.

A poorly written set of plans and specifications can be frustrating but I'll turn things around with my excellent people skills and the appropriate humor needed, so we work through the situation correctly!

I'd like our General Contractors and customers to know I want to work with them friendly and accommodating. I'll go that extra mile to ensure success for them and I am loyal.  We're" not just a one job and done company", we want our customers to all be repeat customers!  This is what we would like them to know. This is what we work towards every day. A relationship of trust and competence to do what is in their best interests.

Bob and I are a team; we collaborate on large projects, share each other’s knowledge of products, installation techniques and competitive pricing strategies.

What about you personally? I'm fun, outgoing, adventurous, love outdoor activities of all kinds.   Prefer comedy over drama.

I’ve been working at Modern Pacific on and off for as long as I’ve been old enough to work in my family’s business.  I like the small business feel we maintain, while we focus on mostly large scale projects.

We pride ourselves on our ability to accommodate projects others are unable or unwilling to take on.  Specialty projects that challenge us as individuals, and as a company provide a great sense of accomplishment.  Our team works really well together to meet the demands.

I also find it very interesting to work with cutting edge technology in light control currently being used in the window coverings industry.  There is always something new to learn.

In my personal life, I enjoy being outdoors doing a variety of sports and activities. I coach a rugby team and like helping others to achieve personal goals. I personally train extensively in the gym for body building competitions, working on my personal goals, and try to inspire those wanting to achieve personal success with their fitness goals as well.

Whether I am working with the Modern Pacific team or out in daily life, a quality important to me in everything I do is to be honest in all endeavors.

Project Manager

I find most interesting the unpredictability of projects during execution. No matter how much planning we do for the project, something will come up and change the direction! Flexibility and attention to detail is my course of action. I find that leading to keep the project moving through the stages is always a challenge, but I do it with a sense of great satisfaction.

People make projects. Not only am I meeting project deadlines but I also need to pay attention to my staff’s needs and expectations.

Being in the project management role at Modern Pacific makes me appreciate our niche - General Contractors (GC’s). Most competitors in the Bay Area don’t have the capability to meet clients’ large project requirements as we do. I find that important and concentrate on delivering services that work for our GC’s.

In business you see the enthusiasm I have for project management, but after hours you will find me enjoying theater, film and my Polynesian dancing!

Accounting Manager

I joined Modern Pacific as Accounting Manager in 2005 and this is the first subcontractor company that I have been worked for in my working experience. I did not realize that as a subcontractor there are so many aspects to cover in accounting and dealing with so many entities until I started working in Modern Pacific. It is a family owned business. My employers, Bob and Andy, are very knowledgeable and resourceful. I enjoy the working environment and the co-workers are helping each other like family members. I am thankful that Modern Pacific gives me every opportunity to learn new software and applications to advance my career. In conclusion, I love my job!

Jesse Roth

Assistant Project Manager

I’ve been working with Modern Pacific since July 2014.  What I like most about the company is the sense of family.  We are a closely knit group of people that come together and make things happen.  From my work experience, it is nice to be able to rub elbows with the owners of the company.  I can be myself and not be judged.

It feels good to be able to say “The job is complete”.  Being charged with the execution of projects is a bitter sweet experience that has, and will always broaden my outlook on my work and personal life.  Completing projects is reward in itself.

The most consistent thing in the world is change.  These are challenges that I face day-to day.  Settling the schedule, only to find out that I have to change it again in the interest of our company, and our customers. It’s something I am prepared to respond to, and makes effort towards the customer’s interest as a priority, when working on the schedule.

My personal interests and hobbies reflect being born and raised in the Philippines until I was 20. I always enjoyed scuba diving.  I miss swimming in warm tropical waters, seeing all the sea creatures swimming and crawling about, and negotiating the different conditions nature has to offer.  In the meantime, going as far deep underwater in a lake or river, and holding my breath for as long as I can to enjoy that experience, takes the edge off.  But nothing beats spending time with my wife, Cindy and son, Liam.  As a family we like to go on hikes, discover new places, and experiencing new things during our free time.

Here’s how I think my “can do” outlook can be described. “We have a problem?  Let’s solve it!  Let’s make this happen!”  That my work ethic at Modern Pacific.
